Household Collections

Clinical

Residents treating themselves at home can request free fortnightly collections for clinical waste and sharps. Your doctor or nurse will advise if separate collection is needed and provide orange or yellow sacks and/or a sharps box.

Clinical waste includes sharps and items that are infectious or hazardous, such as:

  • Swabs, wound dressings, bandages contaminated with hazardous substances
  • Wound vacuum drains or pumps
  • Sharps (e.g. Used or unused syringes, needles, and lancets)

How the service works

To use this service, clinical waste and sharps must be correctly contained.

  • Request a collection using the online form - collections continue fortnightly until you cancel.
  • We supply a yellow wheelie bin for safe storage of clinical waste sacks - do not put black sacks, loose waste, or sharps in this bin.
  • Present bin or closed sharps box by 5am on collection day. Sharps boxes must be securely closed for collection.
