Refuse
Refuse is collected fortnightly. Place your black bin at your property boundary by 6am on collection day. Communal bins are collected from the bin area, so there’s no need to move them.
Bin sizes and limits
To help reduce waste and encourage recycling, the standard refuse bin size is one 180L bin per household. If you currently have a larger 240L refuse bin, please note that if it becomes damaged, it will be replaced with a 180L bin. Each property is limited to one refuse bin. However, you may request additional recycling bins or food waste bins if needed.
The black refuse bin is for household non-recyclable items such as:
- Wet or dirty items (e.g. nappies or greasy cardboard)
- Non-recyclable packaging (e.g. expanded polystyrene)
- Cleaning cloths and tissues
- Broken crockery or household items
The following groups of items must not be placed in the refuse bin:
- DIY waste (e.g. paint, timber)
- Automotive waste (e.g. car parts, waste oil)
- Household chemicals or any liquids
- Medicines, sharps (e.g. needles) or infectious waste
- Bulky items (e.g. furniture, carpets)
Not sure what to do with an item? Use the Recycling Search Tool.
All bins remain the property of Runnymede Borough Council. If you need an additional or replacement bin, request one online using our requests and reports forms.
