Local Government Reorganisation
Local government in Surrey is changing to make council services simpler, clearer and better value for residents. This is called Local Government Reorganisation.
From 1 April 2027, Surrey County Council and the 11 district and borough councils will be replaced by two new unitary councils - East Surrey Council and West Surrey Council.
Runnymede will be part of West Surrey Council, along with Guildford, Spelthorne, Surrey Heath, Waverley and Woking.
Services currently provided by Surrey County Council will divide between East Surrey Council and West Surrey Council.
Housing services
All housing and homelessness services in Runnymede will continue as normal throughout this change. This includes estates, tenancy and leasehold services, repairs and maintenance, housing advice, support, Housing Register and homelessness services. While the council name and brand will change, the housing services will not be affected. You do not need to take any action.
Any existing repairs, service requests or cases will transfer automatically to the new council and continue to be managed. There will be no interruption to the services we provide.
