Food waste
Food waste is collected weekly. Place your food bin at your property boundary by 6am on collection day. Every property will receive a silver kitchen caddy and either:
- Green Food Caddy 23L (Houses) – place outside for collection
- Communal food bin 140L (Flats) – collected from communal area
If you move, please leave the caddy at the property for the next occupier.
All bins remain the property of Runnymede Borough Council. If you need an additional or replacement bin, you can request one online using our requests and reports service.
You can collect a caddy from the following locations:
- Runnymede Civic Centre, Station Road, Addlestone, KT15 2AH
- Egham Library High Street, Egham, TW20 9EA
What can go in your food waste caddy?
- Tea bags and coffee grounds
- Fruit and vegetable peelings
- Eggshells
- Meat (raw or cooked)
- Fish bones and skin (wrap in newspaper to reduce odour)
- Mouldy bread, cakes and pastries
- Food past its use-by date
What cannot go in your food waste caddy?
- Liquids (gravy, oil, juice, liquid fat)
- Food packaging
- Garden waste (twigs, grass, leaves, cut flowers)
- Pet waste or bedding
- Compostable packaging (unless certified for food waste recycling)
- Plastic bags (except for liners like bread bags)
- Black bin bags
Tips for Using Your Caddy
- Line your caddy with plastic bags (e.g., bread bags), newspaper, or compostable liners
- Do not use black bin bags
- Remove any plastic food packaging
- Liners help reduce odours and prevent waste sticking in freezing weather
