Recycling

Recycling is collected fortnightly. Place your blue lidded recycling bin at your property boundary by 6am on collection day. Communal bins are collected from the bin area, so there’s no need to move them.

Please do not put food waste, textiles or small electrical items (including batteries) in your recycling bin.

Recyclable items can be grouped into these categories

  • Mixed paper & card (no tissues or kitchen roll)
  • Glass bottles & jars
  • Aluminium & steel cans
  • Plastic bottles, pots, tubs & trays (no plastic bags or wrapping)

What additional items can I now put in my recycling bin? 

From your next recycling collection, these are the additional items that you can recycle. Please make sure all items are clean before putting them in your recycling bin 

  • cartons such as juice and plant milk cartons 
  • empty aerosol cans 
  • foil 
  • foil trays 
  • non-black plastic plant pots 
  • squeezy metal tubes such as tomato puree tube 

Important Guidelines

  • Clean: Empty and clean bottles, jars, and cans before recycling.
  • Dry: Keep items dry; no wet paper or card.
  • Loose: All items must be loose; do not bag items in your bin.

Recycling FAQs

Remove incorrect items. Your recycling will be collected on the next scheduled collection.

Plastic bags are not currently accepted at sorting plants. Use them for food waste in your green caddy instead.

Yes. Please rinse containers to remove food and drink residue before recycling, as contamination can stop materials being recycled. Place items loose in the bin.

Put it in a clean, dry cardboard box next to your bin for collection.


All bins remain the property of Runnymede Borough Council. If you need an additional or replacement bin, request one online using our requests and reports forms.
