Secure Flexible Tenancy
Secure Flexible Tenancies are given to tenants after the first 12 months. We have used Secure Flexible Tenancies since 1 April 2014.
In most cases the Secure Flexible Tenancy will last for ten years. The tenancy can then be extended for a further five years.
An extension to the tenancy is only agreed if the you are not able to afford alternative housing or you still need a home the same size.
Some tenants may need to move to a smaller property if they don’t need a larger home.
Secure Tenancy
Secure Tenancies were given to tenants until 1st April 2014 when they were replaced with Secure Flexible Tenancies. Some tenants will still have a Secure Tenancy.
Secure Tenancies can only be ended by a court order. The court will only grant the Council a court order if the Council can prove a legal right to repossess the home.
