Paying your rent

Tenancy Services Team are committed to providing necessary advice and support in sustaining your tenancy.  We can help with

  • benefit claims
  • maximising income
  • budgeting
  • additional tenancy support

Your tenancy agreement states rent is payable in advance, every Monday, regardless of the type of tenancy you have. You can choose to pay

  • weekly
  • fortnightly
  • 4-weekly
  • calendar monthly (calculated at 4.5 times your weekly rent)

but whatever the frequency, payments must be made in advance and on time. The easiest way to pay your rent is to set up a direct debit, or you can make payments online with a credit or debit card, including reoccurring card payments.

Rent not paid on time or in arrears is a debt

We understand that some households may face difficulties when paying their rent.

Our focus is on early intervention to support tenants before debts escalate and become potentially unmanageable, so please engage with us as soon as possible if you are struggling with your money as we can offer enhanced levels of support and advice; we want to work with you to protect your tenancy and prevent homelessness.

However, where tenants do not engage with our support and advice services or maintain an agreed repayment plan for a rent debt then we will consider taking enforcement action such as serving you with a Notice of Seeking Possession and commencing possession proceedings to end your tenancy.

If you are concerned about making your rent payments, please call us on 01932 838383 or email  tenancy.management@runnymede.gov.uk
