Community alarms

We offer a personal alarm service which provides emergency assistance, support and reassurance for those wishing to continue to live independently at home.

Support at the touch of a button

Press the button on the unit or a discreet device worn around the neck or wrist to alert our 24 hours Monitoring Centre, Safer Runnymede. Our operators will establish if any assistance is required and if necessary will contact a nominated responder or the emergency services. A working telephone line is required, although alternative solutions are available for those without one.

Who can use this service?

Community alarms are designed to support people of any age who may feel vulnerable in their home. This can include older people, those with a physical, sensory or learning disability, those at risk of falling, patients who have recently left hospital, or victims of crime who would benefit from extra peace of mind.

Telecare sensors tailored to your needs

To offer additional support, we can install Telecare sensors which can be wirelessly linked to the community alarm. They include:

  • Environmental sensors such as smoke, heat and carbon monoxide detectors which can help keep the home safe.
  • Wellbeing sensors such as medication dispensers, fall detectors, epilepsy sensors, bed, chair and movement detectors, which assist in living independently.

More detailed information on our sensors can be found in the telecare section

Home from hospital

For someone recently been discharged from hospital we may be able to provide a community alarm free of charge for a period of six weeks to help them settle back in at home. After this period our standard charges apply depending on the equipment used.

How much does it cost?

A community alarm and pendent costs just £4.90 per week for around the clock peace of mind. Telecare sensors are available for a small additional monthly charge. Payment is made by monthly direct debit and clients or nominated family members can be responsible for payments.

It may be possible to have a community alarm funded through adult social care. To request an assessment and find out more contact Surrey County Council
