Street name plates
Street name plates must not be installed until the proposed street name has been formally authorised in writing by Runnymede Borough Council.
Maintenance Responsibilities
- The Council will take responsibility for maintaining street nameplates only after the road has been adopted by Surrey County Council as the Local Highway Authority.
- Maintenance will cover plates at street entry and exit points, plus any repeat signs considered necessary.
- The Council does not maintain plates for private drives, individual properties, or blocks of flats.
Supply and Cost
- For new developments, the cost of providing and installing street nameplates rests with the developer or applicant.
- All plates must meet the Council’s approved standards for design, materials, and positioning.
Technical Standards
Detailed requirements for size, lettering, materials, and fixing methods are set out in the street name plates specification document.
