Any waste produced from commercial activity counts as business waste. If you run a business from part of your home, the waste generated from that part of the property is also classed as business waste.

Business waste also includes any waste that comes from

As a business you need to

  • Keep waste to a minimum by doing everything you reasonably can to prevent, reuse, recycle or recover waste
  • Find guidance on sorting your waste safely on the GOV.UK website.
  • Complete a waste transfer note for each load of waste that leaves your premises on GOV.UK.
  • Check that your waste carrier is registered with the Environment Agency to dispose of waste.
  • Do not allow illegal disposal of your waste. Report offenders to Crimestoppers.

You have extra responsibilities if are dealing with hazardous waste on GOV.UK.
