Armed forces support

Armed forces personnel and veterans have a wide range of skills and experience that can be valuable to councils. As a result, there are a number of different armed forces jobs available in councils, in a variety of departments and services. Armed forces families in Runnymede can apply for work experience placements with us as part of our commitment.

Some examples of armed forces jobs in councils include

  • Community safety: Armed forces personnel and veterans can use their skills and experience to work in roles such as police officers, fire fighters, and security guards.
  • Planning and development: Armed forces personnel and veterans can use their skills and experience to work in roles such as urban planners, project managers, and building inspectors.
  • Transport and infrastructure: Armed forces personnel and veterans can use their skills and experience to work in roles such as engineers, road workers, and traffic wardens.

In addition to these specific roles, armed forces personnel and veterans can also find work in councils in a variety of other roles, such as administrative support, customer service, and finance.

Supporting the Reserve Forces

Runnymede Borough Council is committed to supporting employees who volunteer as reservists for the Army Reserve, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, Royal Auxiliary Air Force, Royal Marine Reserves and Royal Navy Reserves. The Council acknowledges that the training reservists receive provides skills and abilities that are of benefit to the individual and the employer.

This policy is designed to define our obligations towards employees who are members of the Reserve Forces. It outlines provisions for the annual commitment, notification and mobilisation requirements and stipulates that employees will not be disadvantaged or discriminated against as a result of their role as a Reservist.
