Freedom of information

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 became law on 1 January 2005.

The Act does two main things

  • aims to promote greater openness to information held by public authorities, including local authorities. It gives members of the public a general right of access to all types of recorded information
     
  • requires public authorities to have an approved Publication Scheme which is a means of providing access to information which the Council already publishes.

Where the information sought relates to matters affecting the Environment  they will processed using the Environmental Information Regulations 2004
