Food hygiene rating scheme

Good food hygiene

Have you had a recent inspection and received a food-hygiene rating that you wish to improve?

Research undertaken by the Food Standards Agency shows consumers are making hygiene ratings a factor when deciding where to eat.

Displaying your score is not yet mandatory but customers can check rating online via their mobile phones - so a good rating can mean better business.

Following an inspection you will be sent a detailed report outlining steps needed to ensure your business not only complies with current food-hygiene legislation, but also how it can achieve a higher rating.

The Improver Documents, available below, when used alongside your inspection report, will help you make the relevant changes to improve your Food Hygiene Rating.

A copy of your most recent inspection report is available from the Environmental Health team.

When you feel necessary improvements have been made you can request a Food Hygiene Rating revisit. A fee of £173 (out of scope/ zero VAT rated) applies.

Food hygiene rating request for a re-visit

Revisits take place within three months of receiving a completed application and fee.

Alternatively, if you do not wish to apply for a revisit you can submit your 'right to reply' which will be published alongside your rating.
