Moving house: listening to you

We recently asked for your thoughts on our new Support with Moving Policy.

The policy aims to improve how we offer a helping hand to people who want to move to a smaller and more manageable home, with financial and practical support. This could include furniture removals, benefit changes, post redirection, and more.

We asked residents who have downsized, are waiting to downsize, and are potentially over-occupying their home, to tell us their issues and concerns about downsizing. Their views have influenced the new policy by:

• Extending the policy offer to help tenants move to social housing outside of the Borough
• You said a financial incentive before moving would be useful, so the costs don’t cause difficulties. We will pay contractors directly to ease the pressure
• You said you would prefer a personal touch, rather than letters or phone calls. We will offer in-person meetings and a friend or family member can be there too
