What support will the policy offer?
The Council recognises that moving can be costly, but we also understand that there is a lot of physical work behind moving too. With this in mind, the policy will introduce financial and practical support.
Financial support
The amount financial we can offer depends on the size of the property and a financial assessment
- 1 spare bedroom – 10 x weekly rent (maximum)
- 2 spare bedrooms – 15 x weekly rent (maximum)
- 3 spare bedrooms – 18 x weekly rent (maximum)
- Disabled adapted homes - Statutory home loss payment
Practical support
If a tenant does not have a support network or the capacity to manage a move themselves, Housing staff will help with the following
- Furniture removals
- Changing utility suppliers
- Post redirection
- Benefit changes
- Organise carpets
- Reconnect cookers and other white goods
- Applying for additional moving funds
- Arranging contents insurance.
We will also work with Adult Social Care and any agencies that are already working with the resident to access practical support for them.
