Knowledge tests

The knowledge tests are written assessment for which you will need a good knowledge of the Runnymede borough and / or the requirements and conditions which apply to the type of licence you want. Tests are held once a month at the Civic Centre. Please ensure you arrive in plenty of time as no extra time will be given if you're late. On the day of the test, you are required to bring your DVLA driving licence or passport with you.

Knowledge Test Guidance

The test will be held once a month at the Civic Centre please ensure you arrive in plenty of time as no extra time will be given. There is a fee of £54 (£57 from April 2024) for the hackney carriage driver test, £54 (£57 from April 2024) for private hire driver or operator. This must be paid on booking the test, payments are not accepted on the day of the test. (please note that if you cancel your knowledge test and wish to take on another date you will not be able to book a future test date as there may be other applicants waiting, you will be placed on a waiting list and informed of the test availability no later than one week prior to the test)

You have one hour to complete parts 1 and 2 of the test and a further half hour to complete part 3 the Hackney Carriage route test, if applicable. On the day of the test you are required to bring your DVLA driving licence or passport with you.

Pens & answer sheets are provided.

Items NOT permitted to be used during the Test: mobile phones, written notes, maps, satellite navigation systems, etc.

Any form of cheating or attempts to photograph the papers will result in your paper being void and you will not be permitted to sit the test again.

You will be informed of your result in writing within seven working days.

Each question has only ONE correct answer

Each part must be completed successfully, if you pass part 3 and fail any of the other part you will only have to retake both parts 1 and 2 again.

It is a written test and you will need a good working knowledge of the Runnymede Borough Council area and/or the relevant requirements and conditions for the licence you are applying for. If the examiner cannot read an answer it will not receive a mark. There are three parts to the test as follows.
