Recycling

Garden, shed and greenhouse recycling

The Surrey Environment Partnership offers practical tips to help you reduce, reuse, and recycle effectively. You can reduce single‑use plastics in the garden by reusing plant pots, choosing biodegradable seed trays, and returning empty compost bags to local recycling points where available.

Home Composting
  • Compost your garden waste such as grass cuttings, leaves, and prunings.
  • Consider using a food digester for cooked food and other items that can’t go in a standard compost bin.
  • Explore compost bins, hot composters, and food waste digesters available.
Repurpose and Reuse

Give a second life to items that are not easily recycled, such as:

  • Bubble wrap (use for protecting plants or insulation)
  • Flower pots (reuse for seedlings or donate to community gardens)
Dispose of Chemicals Safely
  • Never put garden chemicals, paints, or hazardous substances in your garden waste bin.
  • These items must be disposed of at your local Community Recycling Centre or through approved hazardous waste disposal services.
