Local Plan Timetable

Runnymede Local Plan Timetable

The Planning Committee approved the new Local Plan timetable on Wednesday 25 February 2026. The timetable has effect from that date, until a revised timetable is published.

The following information is provided in accordance with the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act:

The matters which the authority’s local plan is likely to deal with:

  • Setting out a spatial strategy and allocating land for development – with clear expectations for the location of development and where land should be protected or enhanced for specific purposes;
  • Specifying different types and mixes of housing to meet needs (e.g. affordable housing, care homes, student housing, pitches and plots for gypsies, travellers and travelling showpeople, and self and custom-build housing);
  • Specifying different types of employment development to meet needs (e.g. offices, industrial space, and retail space);
  • Setting out requirements for supporting infrastructure, including community facilities and public service infrastructure;
  • Setting out requirements for protecting and enhancing the natural and historic environment;
  • Planning positively to mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change (including increased flood risk);
  • Design of development.

The geographical area to which the authority’s local plan is to relate:

  • The new Local Plan will relate to the Borough of Runnymede, a non-metropolitan district in Surrey.

Any supplementary plans which the authority is to prepare:

  • We are not preparing or intending to prepare any supplementary plans at the moment. If we decide to prepare any in the future, we will update this website.

The subject matter and geographical area, site or sites to which each of those supplementary plans is to relate:

  • Not applicable at the current time.

How the authority proposes to comply with the requirement in section 15F(1) (requirement in relation to design code):

  • The government recently consulted on a new draft design and placemaking planning practice guidance setting out how place-specific and local design criteria can take the form of design policies, design guides or design codes (prepared by local planning authorities and/or applicants). Once the pattern of growth in the emerging Local Plan is better understood, the Council will take a view on the most appropriate design tools to deliver development that is of high design quality.

Whether the authority’s local plan for their area is to be a joint local plan and, if so, each other local planning authority for whose area the joint local plan is to be their local plan:

  • The new Local Plan is not intended to be a joint local plan.

Whether the authority is to prepare a joint supplementary plan and, if so, each other local planning authority who are to prepare that joint supplementary plan with them:

  • The authority is not intending to prepare a joint supplementary plan.

Any matter or area in respect of which the authority have agreed (or propose to agree) to the constitution of a joint committee under section 15J:

  •  Not applicable

A timetable for the preparation of the authority’s local plan for their area, and any supplementary plans the authority are to make:

  • The key milestones in the Local Plan timetable are set out below. This timetable will be reviewed by the Council and updated as necessary on a monthly basis. The next review is due to occur by 25 May 2026.
