CCTV policy consultation

What do tenants need to do?

Tenants must have permission from the Council before they install CCTV or a recording device.

  • Tenants can install a maximum of 3 CCTV cameras. This includes video doorbells which can only be installed to a front/back door. They cannot be installed on a communal door, fence, or a structure that points towards a highway or communal entrance.
  • The CCTV or video doorbell cannot cover a communal area or public highway. In this circumstance, you may need to consider an audio doorbell instead.
  • The camera cannot capture images of people out the boundary of your private domestic property – for example, a neighbours’ home or garden, shared spaces, or public footpath.

If CCTV or other recording devices are installed without permission, the Council reserves the right to take action to remove it. If the device is placed on or fixed to Council property, it can be removed without notice. We may charge the tenant for the cost of removal and for repairing any damage caused to the property.
