CCTV policy consultation

Finger pressing doorbell

We will listen to your concerns, views, and opinions on the CCTV Policy. However, our policies must reflect legislation and guidance.

We are re-consulting on this policy as we have made some changes to ensure we help resolve complaints regarding CCTV appropriately.

The policy now includes guidance from the Information Commissioner Office and the Council’s role in neighbour disputes.

For instance, if a resident has tried talking to someone who is using CCTV but has ongoing concerns about any breach of this policy, they should contact the Council with any supporting evidence for us to review.

What is the policy about?

This policy explains our approach to Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) on our housing estates.

By CCTV we mean

  • general cameras
  • recording equipment
  • doorbells with integrated cameras

This policy also applies to Runnymede Borough Council to ensure the cameras we put up are being used for a specified purpose, and we consider its effect on individuals and their privacy.

Next Steps

The proposals and the results of this consultation will be considered by the Housing Committee on 5 June 2024. When the final version is approved by the Committee we will start using the new policy.
