Why I Joined the Scrutiny Panel
As someone who is still fairly new to social housing, I felt it was important to get involved in the Scrutiny Panel. I wanted to understand more about how the council supports its tenants and explore how we, as tenants, can play an active role in improving the services we rely on.
Joining the Panel has given me the chance to learn, ask questions, and make sure tenant voices are genuinely heard and reflected in decision‑making. It’s an opportunity to share my own experiences, listen to others, and work together to influence future policies.
The Panel plays a vital role in bridging the gap between tenants and councillors. It creates a safe, open space where tenants can speak honestly about what matters to them. Our day‑to‑day lived experience of social housing means we have valuable insight to offer, and by contributing that insight, we can help shape services and policies that better meet tenants’ needs.
