Types of tenancy fraud

The aim of this policy is to set out the Council’s approach to preventing, identifying and addressing tenancy fraud including:

  • Falsely claiming to be a single person
  • Falsely claiming to be on a low income
  • Subletting the property without the Council’s permission, including a family member
  • Obtaining housing by deception
  • Unlawful subletting
  • Wrongly claimed succession
  • Unauthorised assignment
  • Key selling
  • Not living in the property as a principal home
