How are parish councils paid for
Parish councils are funded through a precept, which is an additional charge included in your Council Tax.
The amount varies depending on the services the parish council provides and is calculated based on the number of Band D equivalent properties in the area.
Your Council Tax bill will show this precept separately, alongside charges for Surrey County Council, Runnymede Borough Council, and Surrey Police. Existing discounts and council tax support will still apply, with the cost of these shared across all taxpayers in Runnymede.
Since the responsibilities of the proposed new parish council are not yet defined, the exact precept amount is unknown. However, the average parish precept for a Band D property in the UK in 2024/25 was £85.88 per year.
