Heathervale Way improvements

Identified issues

Staff and residents of Heathervale Way walked around the estate to identify issues and the changes needed:

  • The area needed road sweeping. There was broken glass in the area which stops dogs being walked and allowing children out to play
  • Fly tipping was a prominent problem. This is an issue borough wide and therefore we are creating information packs for residents on getting rid of their bulky waste
  • Residents want a way of reporting antisocial behaviour anonymously. This can already be done, but by doing so, it means the resident will not get a response or know if the complaint has been dealt with. You can read more on how to report Anti-Social behaviour
  • There was a desire for CCTV, however this would exceed our budget and we hope that other actions we take will have a positive impact
  • Residents mentioned that better lighting is needed to improve the feel of community safety. It’s difficult to analyse this with the lighter evenings, once the evenings are darker, staff will attend to review this
  • The one way system is in need of repainting.
  • Signage is not adequate. The 5mph speed limit is not noticeable and the map of the estate on the entrance is too small and not on the driver’s side.
  • The fencing had fallen down. Staff are considering Hedges to replace the fallen fences around the Council owned vans. This is for environmental reasons and would improve the appearance. Some residents were concerned regarding maintenance, but the hedging will be included within the Council’s Grounds Maintenance contract
  • The refuse area is messy so we will look at sitting individual bins next to each mobile home on hard standing
  • Reinstate double yellow lines to stop people parking on the curbs.

Temporary accommodation

We understand that residents who live in temporary accommodation need facilities to enable them to maintain their home well.

Therefore, we are providing the following to help improve the facilities for our residents

  • Permanent washing lines to reduce condensation, damp and mould on the properties. This will also mean residents do not have to hang their clothes out of windows, etc.
  • Outdoor lockable storage so those with children have an area to put their play items aways rather than scattered on the grass
  • Curtains and curtain polls so residents don’t have to use interim materials such as towels. They can also retain heat in the property and so residents don’t have high costs for warming their homes.
