The Mayor of Runnymede’s Afghan Families Appeal closed on 31st December, and the total amount raised was £3,465.
Already £1,063 has been used to provide laptops and IT equipment for the three Afghan families the Council has committed to support. The remaining balance will be used to fund home comforts and essential items to help them settle into their new lives in Runnymede.
A very big thank you to everyone who donated, and to everyone who has welcomed these families to our community.
Cllr Elaine Gill, Mayor of Runnymede, said:
These families have faced a huge amount of worry and upheaval and I am glad we have been able to welcome them to the safety of our Borough. A huge thank you to everyone locally who has donated money to help them feel at home and settle in. The residents of Runnymede have proven themselves yet again to be a generous and caring community, and one which I am immensely proud to be a part of.
