An additional £200,000 has been allocated by Runnymede Borough Council to fund repairs, maintenance and minor enhancements in 21 carparks across the borough.
This is in addition to £200,000 already invested in five carparks this financial year, for day to day maintenance.
Years of limited planned maintenance have resulted in a growing backlog of issues, including deteriorating surfaces, drainage defects, ageing lighting infrastructure, faded line markings and overgrown vegetation.
If left unaddressed, these issues will continue to increase maintenance liabilities, create avoidable health and safety risks, negatively impact the customer experience, and contribute to the deterioration of valuable council assets.
The proposed programme will deliver targeted improvements designed to address existing defects, enhance the appearance and functionality of the car parks, and extend the lifespan of the Council's parking infrastructure.
Works will include surface and drainage repairs, lighting upgrades, vegetation management, improved signage and line marking, together with minor enhancements to improve accessibility, safety and operational efficiency.
Councillor Don Whyte, Co-Leader of Runnymede Borough Council, said:
This additional investment in our car parks will bring them up to an appropriate standard with clearer signage, renewed line markings, improved safety and better overall appearance. It’s also an important investment in our commitment to tackling climate change by installing LED lighting. We’re committed to ongoing investment in future-proofing our facilities.
