The new Mayor of Runnymede has been announced as Cllr Steve Ringham, who took office at the Council’s Annual Meeting on Wednesday 20 May.
Cllr Ringham, who represents Addlestone North ward, becomes the first Mayor of Runnymede from his political group and the first in Surrey. His wife, Beena Ringham, will serve as Mayoress during his term of office.
During his mayoral year, Cllr Ringham will support The Eikon Charity and Holme Farm through fundraising and awareness raising activities.
The Eikon Charity supports children and young people across Surrey by helping them to feel safe, heard and supported. The charity works with young people, families and professionals to provide early help, emotional support and opportunities to build confidence and resilience.
Holme Farm is a Surrey-based charity and community hub that uses nature, gardens and outdoor spaces to support health, wellbeing and community connection. Based across 14 acres of countryside, the charity welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds and offers a wide range of projects and activities focused on wellbeing and inclusion.
Born in west London, Cllr Ringham has lived in Egham since 2012 with his family and has served as a borough councillor since 2022. He is currently Co-Leader of the Council, Deputy Chair of the Environment and Sustainability Committee and Chair of the Constitution Members Working Party.
Before entering local politics, Cllr Ringham worked across several sectors, notably in IT for companies such as ITV and the BBC. He is currently a professional photographer. Cllr Ringham is also a qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist and a musician, with long-standing interests in creative & performing arts, psychology and technology.
In addition to supporting his specific charities, Cllr Ringham wants to celebrate and promote arts and culture across the borough.
Speaking about his appointment, Cllr Ringham said:
“If you had told me in 2021 when I first stood for election that I would one day be Mayor, I wouldn’t have believed it.
“I am deeply honoured to be assuming this role. More importantly, I will be the last Mayor of Runnymede, so I truly value the unique opportunity it brings to meet and support people all across the borough.”
