Residents, businesses and organisations in Virginia Water are being invited to share their views on a Neighbourhood Plan prepared by the local community through a consultation.
The consultation will run until 11.59pm on Tuesday 14th October 2025.
Neighbourhood Plans give residents a real say in how their area develops, shaping decisions on design, sustainability, transport and green space for years to come. Once adopted, they carry legal weight in planning applications, alongside the Runnymede 2030 Local Plan.
The Virginia Water Neighbourhood Plan has been prepared by the local community and submitted to Runnymede Borough Council in line with national neighbourhood planning regulations. The Council’s role is to run the consultation and ensure the process is open and accessible.
After consultation, all comments will be passed to an independent examiner, who will decide if the plan is ready to proceed to a local referendum. If supported at referendum, and subsequently approved by the Council, the Neighbourhood Plan will form part of the statutory development plan for the borough and will be used in determining planning applications in Virginia Water.
Among the policies proposed by the Forum in its plan are:
- High quality design – ensuring new development reflects the village’s distinctive character, guided by a new Virginia Water Design Code.
- Active travel – encouraging safer, more attractive walking and cycling routes that fit the area’s character and heritage.
- Sustainable building – reducing carbon emissions through local sourcing of materials and whole-lifecycle building design.
- Protecting gaps and green space – maintaining the distinct identity of Virginia Water, while enhancing local green and blue infrastructure.
