We are making evening and overnight parking simpler and more affordable, following feedback from residents, businesses and community groups.
From September, a single £2 flat fee will apply for parking between 6pm and 8am in council-owned car parks. This replaces the previous separate charges of £2 for evening and £3 for overnight parking, which many found confusing and less flexible.
In addition, we are introducing a new evening parking permit, offering regular users the chance to park at a reduced cost. The permits will cost £100 per year, payable quarterly, and up to 20 permits will be made available per car park.
Councillor Don Whyte, Chair of the Environment and Sustainability Committee, said:
“We’ve listened to what residents and businesses have told us and we’re making sensible changes that reflect their concerns.
These new arrangements make parking more straightforward and more affordable, and they also help support the evening economy and local community activity.
It’s a clear example of how we can respond quickly and proactively to feedback.”
Permit availability will be kept under review to ensure fairness for all users.
