Climate Emergency UK has released its 2025 Council Climate Action Scorecards, assessing councils across the country on the actions they've taken towards achieving net zero.
We’re proud to share that we’re also the best in Surrey.
Why is this important? It shows we’re doing the best we can on behalf of local people to reduce the Council’s impact on the climate.
Overall we scored 45 percent compared to the district and borough councils average of 35 per cent, and we know there will always be more that we can do. However, we’re proud to say our strongest areas included:
- Collaboration and engagement – a 48 per cent improvement from the last rankings in 2023
- Biodiversity – a 26 per cent increase from 2023
- Waste reduction and food – a 32 per cent increase from 2023
- Buildings and heating
- Planning and land use
These results reflect the hard work and commitment across the Council and community to deliver on our Climate Change Action Plan, which provides a framework for local action, guided by the objectives and targets set out in our Climate Change Strategy
