A milestone in democracy and transparency has been reached at Runnymede with the launch of our new live streaming service for committee meetings.
This allows anyone with an internet connection to watch the public part of our committee meetings from their phone or computer.
The first meeting to be live streamed was this week's Extraordinary Full Council meeting, and you can watch the meeting here.
To make webcasting and live streaming possible we have installed cameras in our Council Chamber that will automatically focus on whoever is speaking. The cameras work with the microphones to know who to zoom in on automatically.
Recordings of the meetings will be available on our website for six months after the meeting. They can be found here: Home - Runnymede Borough Council streaming
Our website homepage will also include a new section of upcoming committee meetings.
Webcasting of meetings was a priority for the Council's new leadership and at the December 2024 Corporate Management Committee meeting councillors voted to introduce streaming as they considered it an important part of local democracy.
It enables anyone to watch councillors debate matters of importance to them without needing to travel to the Civic Centre in Addlestone.
This means council meetings are more open and accessible to the public and more people can see how decisions are made in an environment that best works for them.
At the same time as installing new equipment, we have also updated the facilities for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
We always look for ways to improve our website. Share your feedback on how we can improve the information or structure of this web page.
