Appointment of member to our remuneration panel

Runnymede Borough Council is seeking a person from the business community to join our Independent Remuneration Panel.

The panel examines and makes recommendations regarding the allowances paid to Runnymede Borough Councillors and co-opted members of this Council.

We are looking for a conscientious person who lives or works in Runnymede and would like to influence the way councillors are reimbursed for their public service. Knowledge or experience of local government is essential as is political impartiality.

The Independent Remuneration Panel will consist of five members who will represent residents’ associations, the business, voluntary, education and health sectors.

We are now asking someone who works within the business sector to put forward themselves or nominate a candidate to represent their sector on the panel for consideration.

The following people are unable to be appointed as members of the Independent Remuneration Panel:

  • Employees of Runnymede Borough Council;
  • A person who is also a member of an authority in respect of which it makes recommendations or is a member of a committee or sub-committee of such an authority; or
  • A person who is disqualified from being or becoming an elected member of a local authority.

The panel is likely to meet on three or four occasions from October 2021 - January 2022 at the Civic Centre in Addlestone. Reasonable travelling and subsistence expenses will be paid plus a one-off payment of £500. Meetings are normally held in the daytime.

For further information and an application form, please contact Bernard Fleckney (Democratic Services Manager) by email or call 01932 425620.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on Wednesday 8 September 2021. Interviews of applicants will be held in late September on a date to be confirmed.
