Every single apartment in Egham’s Magna Square development has now been sold or rented in an important milestone for the site.

The news means 101 households have now taken up the benefits of town centre living with a mix of private sector and affordable homes.

Runnymede Borough Council’s residential and retail regeneration project in the heart of Egham was launched in the summer of 2022, with the aim of revitalising the town centre. Magna Square not only offers a dynamic town square for entertainment and retail but also helps to address the housing needs of Egham. The development has created 34 affordable homes, 67 apartments for private sale or rent, and 100 rooms for students from nearby Royal Holloway, University of London.

With an investment of £90 million, the regeneration has also provided retail and leisure options, as well as an attractive and vibrant town square, which has become a focal point for the community.

Cllr Tom Gracey, Leader of Runnymede Borough Council, spoke about the recent milestone success of Magna Square:

“In just a few years, we have revitalised this part of the historic town, ushering in a new era of Egham's development.

“It’s great to see that the Council’s strategy of regenerating the town was the right one, supporting local people, enhancing the environment and improving the local economy in the process.

“We’re proud that the success of this regeneration scheme is attracting people to live and work in Egham, encouraging new business to move in, and that more residents are able to benefit from the greater quality of life that our Borough offers.”

In the last few months, Magna Square has been shortlisted for a slew of design and architecture awards, including the British Construction Industry Awards, the World Architecture Festival, and the British Homes Awards Regeneration Scheme of the Year.

It was one of five finalists for the Estates Gazette Magazine Awards’ Public and Private Partnership trophy and was commended in the National Planning Awards for the best mixed-use development.

Most recently it has been confirmed as a shortlist candidate for the Royal Institute of British Architects’ South East Awards, with results expected later this spring. Read more here.

The development has gained popularity with the public since its launch, who have been able to enjoy social and third-place options such as Liberto Lounge, an Everyman Cinema, Starbucks, G&T Hair Atelier, and the 24/7 Budgens convenience shop. The residents have also benefited from a shared car club which offers a community car which is rented by the hour.

Magna Square is a five minutes’ walk from Egham station and is right on the high street. For further information, please visit the official website or follow along on Instagram.
