Get Moving Grant
Runnymede Borough Council has launched a dedicated sports support fund to help more young people get active.
This initiative is designed to provide targeted financial assistance for young residents seeking to take part in sports or physical activity with local clubs.
This initiative is designed to assist local families by reducing the costs associated with joining local sports clubs and teams. The fund offers a contribution of up to £150 per child to assist with the cost of annual memberships or registration fees.
Eligibility criteria
This scheme is open to young residents under 18 who live or go to school within the Runnymede Borough and who meet at least one of the following requirements:
- Financial Support: The child is currently eligible for Free School Meals or the household receives regular Universal Credit payments
- Support Services: The family is currently working with Runnymede Family Centre, Home-start Runnymede and Woking or an equivalent support group
- Care Background: The applicant is currently or has previously been a Looked After Child (LAC) or is under the care of Surrey County Council.
- Health & Wellbeing: The grant would specifically address a documented health condition or provide a significant improvement to the child's physical or mental wellbeing
Please Note: These are one-time grants intended to help new members get started. Repeat applications will only be reviewed in exceptional circumstances on a case-by-case basis. Evidence relating to the eligibility criteria above will be required during the application process.

How to apply
The application process is simple and designed to ensure the sport is a good fit for your child before funds are committed. You can apply anytime throughout the year.
The Taster Session
Contact your chosen club from the list above to arrange an initial trial or taster session.
The Application
If the child enjoys the session and wishes to join, the parent, guardian, or support worker should complete our online Moving Grant Application Form.
Approval & Payment
Once the application is verified and approved, Runnymede Borough Council will transfer the funds directly to the sports club to cover the membership costs.
Important information
- Data Privacy: Any information provided during the application is only shared with the specific sports club to facilitate the membership. Link data protection policy
- Discretionary Funding: All grants are awarded at the Council’s discretion. Decisions are final, and there is no formal appeals process. We reserve the right to pause or close the scheme if funding limits are reached.
- Feedback: Six months after the grant is issued, we will contact you to complete a brief, anonymous survey. Your feedback is vital in helping us secure future funding and improve the service for other families.
