As an event organiser consider the following
- scale, type and scope of the event
- type and size of audience
- location
- duration of the event
- time of day and year the event will be held
This will help you to decide what resources and facilities will be needed. Once you have this information you can produce a safety plan. The main tool for creating a safety plan is undertaking a risk assessment.
For small-scale events (such as street parties), you can carry out a basic risk assessment (or checklist). A larger scale event will need a more detailed written Health and Safety risk assessment.

More information on risk assessments can be found on the Health and Safety Executive website
For event planners the Purple Guide has all the information you need for planning your event. The guide is for larger scale events and is a subscription only service.
