Public Space Protection Order - Catapult misuse

A Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) came into force on 4 December 2025, covering the entire borough of Runnymede. The PSPO will be in place for a period of three years from the commencement date and will expire on 3 December 2028.

Repeated reports of catapult misuse across the borough, led to the Council’s belief that this is detrimental to the quality of life of those in the local community.

As part of the Antisocial Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, a PSPO enables local authorities to deal with antisocial behaviour in a defined area, imposing restrictions with the aim of stopping individuals, or groups, from committing antisocial behaviour in public spaces.

This order covers the possession of catapults, slingshots, and other similar devices, as well as their associated projectile items.

Any person without reasonable excuse who fails to comply with this order can be issued a Fixed Penalty Notice of £100 or risk a fine in court of £1,000.
