Supporting your Temporary Accommodation or Private Sector Tenancy

Managing and maintaining your tenancy is one of the most important things you can do to ensure you have a safe and stable home to live in. We understand that there may be some challenges involved with running your home and we can offer advice and information if you are struggling.

What is the Housing Sustainment Service?

Our Housing Sustainment Service may be able to help with any tenancy related problems you are having by offering short-term support to enable you to live independently and manage your tenancy.

Our Housing Sustainment Team can also provide support and assistance to those living in our temporary accommodation or shared house accommodation. We will work with you to ensure you have the skills and budgetary support to prepare you for move-on accommodation and to maintain any future tenancies you may be offered.

The Housing Sustainment Team will provide a package based upon your individual needs.

How we can help

We can help with the following:

  • Basic budgeting advice and money management to ensure rent and bills are paid on time

  • Advice on how to reduce rent arrears

  • Looking at ways to maximise your income and ensuring you are in receipt of all the benefits you are entitled to

  • Supporting you to save for rent in advance for future tenancies and removals costs

  • Assistance with filling in forms for benefits/housing

  • Applying for grants/funding in a crisis

  • Help with finding furniture or essential white goods

  • Information on accessing education, work, training and volunteering opportunities

  • Information about learning and developing essential life skills, such as literacy, IT skills and cooking courses

  • Accessing services in the local community

  • Referrals to other agencies for more in-depth/specialist advice

We offer appointments at our offices or visits to your home*, where we will discuss your current circumstances and we can also support you over the phone and by email.

*Due to Coronavirus, we are having to work differently. We can still help you but all of our face to face appointments are postponed until Government announces it is safe to do so.

We may ask you to provide us with various pieces of information, such as proof of income, bank statements and details of any debts you may have outstanding. This will help us to get an overview of your situation and enable us to give you the correct advice and support, or signpost to the relevant agencies.
