Why change the scheme
We are proposing to change the Council Tax Support Scheme because we want to make it simpler to claim and stabilise entitlement for working-age residents.
Therefore, we want to consult with the public on our preferred options, as well as the only alternative option which is to keep the CTS as it currently is.
We want to strike a balance between the need to provide financial stability to residents whilst maintaining a scheme that is financially sustainable for the council’s wider budget.
Q1 A change the scheme
If we made no changes, and council tax were to rise by 4.59% next year, the CTS annual spend would rise to £4.2m and mean council tax on the average Band D would rise to £179.92
