All-new Addlestone Christmas lights switch-on

An all-new Christmas lights experience is coming to Addlestone town centre on 23 November!

Runnymede Borough Council has invested more than £10,000 in new Christmas lights in line with its plans for the revitalisation of Addlestone. The 33 new lights will be displayed on lamp posts and the roundabout on Station Road.

The illumination celebration will start at 4.30pm with a programme of events, leading up to the lights being officially switched on by the Mayor at 6pm. It will take place on The Lane at Addlestone One, near the Civic Centre in Station Road.

Paul Turrell, Chief Executive of Runnymede Borough Council, said: "We are revitalising the town centre to make Addlestone a welcoming destination for both local people and visitors this festive season and beyond.

"These new Christmas lights will give the town centre a refreshed, exciting seasonal atmosphere and will also, we hope, encourage people to come into town to shop or eat and support our local economy and create a vibrant town.

"I am looking forward to local people and businesses taking the opportunity to reconnect as the Addlestone community comes together on 23 November for the switch-on event."

The evening celebration will see Father Christmas, face painters and balloon modellers on hand to entertain children. There will also be food provided by Nando's, Smith & Western and The Light Cinema and performances from choirs including the award-winning St George's College Chamber Choir who play at prestigious venues around the country.

The winners of a kids colouring competition will be announced, and receive exciting prizes, whilst an adults' amateur photography challenge will also be launched.

The event is being organised by Runnymede Borough Council and is sponsored by the businesses in Addlestone One. Local shops in the town centre are also involved in supporting the event.

The new lights in Addlestone are due to be followed by upgrades to seasonal displays in other town and village centres so over time the borough as a whole remains a vibrant and desirable place to visit.

Booklets giving more details are available from shops and the Civic Centre or find the Addlestone Christmas lights event on the Council's Facebook page.
