Councillors and Committees

Council business is conducted through a network of Committees and Sub Committees, each comprising of between 5 and 15 Councillors.
The Council has 42 Councillors, three of each for the 14 wards, elected to represent the public.

Councillors and co-opted Members of the Council are required to observe a code of conduct.
The Constitution is a legal document that sets out how we operate, how decisions are made and the procedures we follow.

Councillors are responsible for the overall policy direction of the Council and take all of the significant decisions concerning the Authority's services and expenditure.
When they take office our Councillors and co-opted Members are required to abide by a Code of Conduct made under the Localism Act 2011.
