Volunteering in sport

Sport relies on volunteers to be able to operate. Without them Runnymede could not provide the activities or have as many sports clubs and teams as it currently does. There are a number of ways to volunteer in sport within Runnymede, and there is always an opportunity available.

Specsavers Surrey Youth Games

The Specsavers Surrey Youth Games is the biggest annual sporting event for children in Surrey, with 15 sports to choose from. The Surrey Youth Games aims to introduce children to new sports with eight weeks of free training across the borough on offer which starts in April.

The training is provided by local clubs and coaches, and we are always looking for additional volunteers to support the training. If you are interested in volunteering, visit Specsavers Surrey Youth Games 2020 for information about the programme email sport@runnymede.gov.uk or call 01932 425677.

There are also a large number of volunteering opportunities over the games weekend from scoring and umpiring to van drivers and customer services assistants. If you would like to help make the games happen, visit Volunteer SYG.

Walk Leaders

Walking for Health is helping people across the country to get healthier and happier - but we couldn't do this without all the amazing volunteers that make our health walks possible.

Runnymede Healthy Walks are always after new walk leaders who lead health walks taking place around Runnymede. As a volunteer walk leader, you would be helping people in your community to get active and healthy, providing vital support that they otherwise might not get.  As well as ensuring walks are friendly, safe and well run, walk leaders are also our ambassadors for walking, their scheme and Walking for Health - showing people that walking really can make a big difference to their lives. To volunteer as a local walk leader visit Runnymede Health Walks or email sport@runnymede.gov.uk or call 01932 425677.

Sport Clubs

There are many clubs and groups who would always benefit from having more volunteers, and Runnymede Borough Council also have a number of sporting voluntary projects ongoing. If you are interested in volunteering in sport within Runnymede see our Sports directory or email sport@runnymede.gov.uk or call 01932 425677.

Runnymede Borough Council offers grants to club coaches and volunteers looking to progress their sports coaching career through coach education courses. For more information visit our funding for sport page.
