Safety Advisory Group (SAG)

Runnymede's Safety Advisory Group (SAG) advises on safety aspects for public events that are planned to take place.

Our SAG meets regularly to discuss events that are coming up within our Borough.  The membership comprises of senior officers from various agencies operating in the Borough, this includes officers from the Fire and Rescue Services and the Police.

When considering items for the SAG the Chairman may call to the meeting, a nominated person from the organisation to contribute to the discussions.  When planning an event for more than 500 people the SAG would require a minimum of six months' notice.

What sort of events does the Safety Advisory Group consider?

In general, large scale public events held in our parks or open spaces are the main concern, although smaller events may also require the involvement of the SAG, depending on the type of event. The type of things a SAG looks out for are; animal transportation, bouncy castles, catering, generators, managed road closures or heavy traffic and music.

Events considered by the SAG would include:

  • Agricultural shows
  • Fetes
  • Fun Fairs
  • Marathons
  • Open air music festivals or concerts
  • Processions
  • Road Races
  • Sporting Events
  • Trade Shows

If you would like to hold an event in our Borough on Council land, please do email our events team who will be able to help you with any queries you may have.  You may also like to visit our web page Parks and open spaces for further information.

SAGs are non-statutory bodies and so do not have legal powers or responsibilities, and are not empowered to approve or prohibit events from taking place. Event organisers and others involved in the running of an event, retain the principal legal duties for ensuring public safety.
