Benefits information for landlords

If you are a landlord and your tenant receives benefits, find out how this may affect you.

Find information on providing accurate evidence / proof of rent, your tenant's change of circumstances, paying back overpayments and fraud.
Each property receives one Council Tax bill. The main residents of the household are responsible for paying this.
If a tenant owes rent for eight weeks or more, we will pay Housing Benefit directly to the landlord unless we consider it is in the tenant's best interest not to do so.
If you are a private tenant we usually pay Housing Benefit directly into your bank account every two weeks, on a Friday. If you are a council tenant your Housing Benefit will be credited to your rent account. If we pay your landlord direct, we pay her/him every four weeks in arrears.
