Runnymede Borough Council is excited to announce the 2018 River Celebration Festival that aims to revere all things river related.

We will be working with partners to extol the rivers that run through our borough. There will be activities throughout the year showcasing the fantastic activities, sport and culture our community offers. There will also be one-off events put on especially for the festival.River

From regattas to exhibitions and pond dipping to river walks - there will be something for everyone.

RIVER CELEBRATION 2018 - THE PROGRAMME SO FAR

March

Saturday, 24 March - Runnymede River Celebration FREE Launch Event, 11am to 1pm at Chertsey Museum, 33 Windsor Street, Chertsey KT16 8AT.

The event will start with tea and coffee at 11am followed by a talk on the River Celebration Exhibition by Emma Warren, Curator at Chertsey Museum, at 11.30am. The premier of 'A Year in the Life of Runnymede's Rivers and Waterways' film will start at 12noon and at 12.30pm the River Celebration Exhibition officially opens.

Saturday, 24 March - Forest Estate Community Hub River Themed Spring Fayre, noon to 3pm

Saturday, 26 May - Frogs Island Fair, 11am to 5pm at Pooley Green Recreation Ground

Tuesday, 12 June - Go With the Flow - school art project by The Sunbury Embroidery Gallery.

The Sunbury Gallery, which sits adjacent to the River Thames, is running a community arts project involving pupils from Manor Mead and Walton Leigh, both local schools for children with special needs. The project will involve a boat trip, where pupils will be encouraged to draw what they see, history and heritage workshops as well as a group project putting together a large-scale textile wall hanging. Tuesday ,19 June - Singing Picnics with river-themed songs for invited schools, Runnymede Pleasure Grounds

July

Sunday, 1 July - Egham Regatta

Egham Regatta is one of the largest sporting events in Runnymede, attracting young male and female rowers from across southern England. Egham Regatta resumes its traditional 600m course from upstream of Bell Weir Lock to the finish adjacent Wraysbury Skiff & Punting Club. For more information please visit the website here.

Saturday, 14 July  - Black Cherry Fair, the Runnymede River film on the big screen

The Black Cherry Fair has grown into a much-loved tradition, providing great enjoyment to visitors and needed funds for the charities and organisations that take part. The fair is held in Abbey Fields, St Ann's Road, KT16 8AT in the heart of Chertsey. All council car parks are free on the day.For more details on the Black Cherry Fair event please click here.

Saturday, 11 August, and Sunday, 12 August - Chertsey Show, the Runnymede River film on the big screen

Open from 8.30am to 5.30pm each day at the Show Ground, Mead Lane, Chertsey, Surrey, KT16 8LN. The show is a wonderful family day out. Meet the people and see livestock that bring the country to life. For more details on the Chertsey Show event please click here.

Saturday, 25 August, and Sunday, 26 August - Egham Royal Show, the Runnymede River film on the big screen

The Egham Royal Show is an ever popular annual event that brings together diverse horticultural and agricultural themes to help celebrate and enjoy a key aspect of British history. The 160th Show will take place on Saturday 25 August 2018, from10am to 6pm and Sunday, 26 August 2018, 10am to 5.30pm in Mrs Caddey's Field, Whitehall Lane, Egham, TW20 9NW. Monday, 25 September - River Walk for Living Well Week starts at 10am at Manor Farm Centre

November

Monday, 5 November, to Friday, 16 November - Junior Citizen for year 6 pupils with safety sets including a 10 minute talk from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, Thorpe Park.

Each November schools in Runnymede are invited to bring their year six pupils along to take part in Junior Citizen workshops. Topics include: first aid and calling 999, fire safety, rail safety, electrical safety and water safety. For more information please visit here.
