Charity collection exemptions

The following charities hold a National Exemption Order issued by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) for clothing collections either carried out by themselves or on their behalf by a commercial clothing collection company and do not need a licence.

  • Asthma UK (Recycling Clothes Company Limited)
  • Against Breast Cancer (Recycling Clothes Company Limited)
  • Age UK
  • NSPCC (Clothes Aid)
  • Make a Wish Foundation (Clothes Aid)
  • Macmillan Cancer Support (Clothes Aid)
  • Leukaemia Research Fund
  • Kidney Research UK (East London Textiles)
  • The Air Ambulance Service (RAMs Collections Ltd)
  • The Salvation Army

The following charities make appeals for donations to their charity shops but do not carry out clothing collections, so they do not need a licence:

  • FARA

Unfortunately, the FARA shop in Addlestone is now closed; the nearest shop taking donations for FARA is in Shepperton.

The following charities have charity shops taking donations in Runnymede (list correct as at May 2017):

  • Addlestone - Age Uk, Oxfam, Princess Alice Hospice, Salvation Army
  • Chertsey -  Barnardo's, Children's Trust,
  • Egham - Age Uk, British Heart Foundation, Blue Cross, Oxfam, Princess Alice Hospice, Sam Beare Hospice, Sue Ryder
  • Virginia Water - Age UK, Sam Beare Hospice.

Runnymede Borough Council also collects textiles from households. These should be placed in a clear plastic bag by your bin on collection day. Details can be found on our textiles recycling page.
