Unoccupied and partly occupied property relief

Business Rates are not payable for the first three months that a property is empty. This may be extended to six months for certain industrial properties.

Full rates are payable after this time, however in some cases the rate may be reduced by the Government by order, for example for charities and community amateur sports clubs. Any reduction by order will be shown on your bill.

If the property is occupied or partly occupied you are liable to pay full Business Rates. However, if the property is partly occupied for a short time we have discretion to award relief in certain cases. Please contact us for more information.
