Domestic Abuse

The government definition of domestic violence and abuse is any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive (to force someone to do something) or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are or have been intimate partners or family members regardless of gender or sexuality. This can include but is not limited to, the following types of abuse:

  • psychological
  • physical
  • sexual
  • financial
  • emotional

Help and support is available

If you are experiencing domestic abuse, there is help and support available to you. This is not something you should have to endure alone.

Victims of domestic abuse are being encouraged to report the incident to their local police on 101 or in an emergency dial 999.

Outreach services are available across Surrey offering support, advice, information and access to specialist services to anyone in the community experiencing domestic abuse, whether they have left or are still in an abusive relationship.
