The following are eligible for consideration for grants under the Landfill Communities Scheme:-
The reclamation, remediation, restoration or any other operation intended to facilitate the economic, social, or environmental use of land where its use has been prevented or restricted because of a previous activity on the land which has ceased.
Any operation intended to prevent or reduce any potential for pollution that may be caused or to remedy or mitigate the effects of any pollution that has been caused by a previous activity on the land which has ceased.
This category of project no longer exists.
Where it is for the protection of the environment, the provision, maintenance or improvement of public parks or other public amenities.
Where it is for the protection of the environment, the maintenance, repair or restoration of buildings or other structures which are places of religious worship or are of historic or architectural interest and which are open to the public.
The provision of financial, administrative or other services to Environmental Bodies.
Projects which are required to be funded by other bodies, such as Runnymede Borough Council or Surrey County Council, are not eligible and all must meet the following requirements:-
they must not be operated with a view to profit;
they must be within the Borough of Runnymede;
they must not unnecessarily duplicate other initiatives;
if in category (4) or (5) above they must be available and accessible to the general public.
Projects must normally be completed within a three year period and commence within a year of funding being granted. They will not be funded retrospectively.

Since formation in July 2000 AIR has secured over £1 million in grants. Grants awarded include-

Virginia Water Methodist Church - Replacement Heating System, £13,800 awarded by SITA Trust
Knowle Hill Tennis Club - New Clubhouse, £48,600 awarded by Biffaward
Englefield Green Social Hall - Replacement Windows, New Heating System and Toilet Refurbishment, £21,200 awarded by SITA Trust, £41,500 awarded by Biffaward
Chertsey Cricket Club - New Practice Nets, £4,725 awarded by SITA Trust
New Haw Community Centre - Kitchen Refurbishment, £5,000 awarded by Biffaward
Adventure Play Area at Bishops Way Recreation Ground - £49,300 awarded by Biffaward
Environmental Improvements at Riverside Walk, Virginia Water - £13,000 awarded by SITA Trust
1st Englefield Green Scouts - Internal Partitions, Fixtures and Fittings at New Headquarters, £45,300 awarded by Biffaward
Addlestone Community Centre - Stage Equipment and Tiered Seating at new Community Centre, £82,000 awarded by Biffaward
Abbey Rangers Football Club - Plumbing and Electrical Works at new Clubhouse, £10,000 awarded by SITA Trust, £49,900 awarded by Biffaward
