How you can pay your council tax or national non domestic rate

Information regarding all the payment options available is given below, including a new facility to pay your Council Tax in cash at retail outlets offering the PayPoint facility (please note that this payment facility is not available for payment of National Non Domestic Rates.)

WHEN IT NEEDS TO BE PAID

Your monthly instalment plan is shown on the bottom of your Council Tax/NNDR bill. Please remember that you must pay the amount shown on your bill on or before the 1st of each month. A full year's Council Tax/NNDR is payable over 10 monthly instalments if the demand is issued on or before 30th April each year.

HOW TO PAY

There are a number of ways you can pay, although the Council's preferred method is Direct Debit.

DIRECT DEBIT

This is by far the easiest and most cost effective way to pay if you have a bank or building society account. There are considerable cost savings which are passed on to the payer. You will be given at least 10 days notice prior to the first deduction or if there is an amendment to your instalments. Direct debits are requested on the first working day of each month. You can download a form by clicking on the link below or arrange for a form to be sent to you by contacting the direct line shown at the top of your Council Tax/National Non Domestic Rates bill.

Post offices will accept cash, debit card and cheques. Payments made by cheque must be made payable to Post Office Ltd and crossed A/C Payee Only. PayPoint outlets will only accept cash. HOME/TELEPHONE BANKING

You can make payment using any of the telephone or personal computer banking services offered by banks and building societies. Please ensure that you quote your Council Tax/Non Domestic Rates account number as shown on your bill. You will also need the following details to make payment:

Sort Code: 08-90-34, Bank Name: Co-Operative Bank, Account Name: Runnymede Borough Council, Account Number: 61106163

PAYMENT BY BACS

You will need to quote the same details given for Home/Telephone Banking. The address of the Co-Operative Bank is 17 High Street, Kingston, Surrey KT1 1LP.

BY POST - PLEASE DO NOT SEND CASH

Cheques need to be made payable to Runnymede Borough Council and crossed 'A/C Payee Only'. Please ensure that you write your Council Tax/Non Domestic Rates account number on the back of the cheque, together with your name and address. Send the payment to the Director of Finance, Runnymede Borough Council, Runnymede Civic Centre, Station Road, Addlestone, Surrey KT15 2AH. A receipt will not be issued unless specifically requested.

BANKERS ORDER

This method is an expensive way for the Council to collect Council Tax/NNDR and is considerably more expensive than payment by Direct Debit. The cost of collection is of course reflected in the level of Council Tax payable.

Bankers Order is an agreement between yourself and your bank. The Council is unable to notify the bank directly of payment amounts or of any changes to your liability, unlike Direct Debit. Please remember when completing the form that payment is due on or before the first working day of each month. It is your responsibility to ensure you set this arrangement up with your bank each year and to quote the correct payment details, stating the amounts and frequency of the payments due.
