Chief Executive's department

The Chief Executive's group is made up of the Personnel and Information Technology sections together with Communications and the Chief Executive's PA. 

The Chief Executive himself is the Council's Chief Officer and Head of the paid service. He is responsible for policy and procedural advice to the Council together with the internal management and staffing of the authority. In addition, the Chief Executive is responsible for a number of policies and initiatives which affect the Council as a whole. These corporate issues may involve performance etc, but above all ensuring that the policy aspirations and targets of the Council are achieved.

External relations with industry, commerce and the various academic and other institutions in the Borough is an important part of the Chief Executive's work and his PAwho also doubles as Secretary to the Mayor provides support and advice to the mayoralty. Major schemes such as regeneration schemes are co-ordinated directly by the Chief Executive as are a number of other sensitive/ important issues.

The Chief Executive is in overall charge of the Council's communications ensuring that they are of a consistently high quality and professional in their approach. Relationships with the media are also a critical part of the remit.

The Chief Executive who is also the Council's Returning Officer for local elections together with Rob Curtis from the Department of Administration and Leisure organises and co-ordinates the various elections, registration of electors, and the election count.
